Eating While Driving is Dangerous

Coconut Grove, FL - (Personal Injury Attorney Miami News) According to reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the majority of car accidents are not being caused by speeding, driving under the influence or even reckless driving report the Florida Personal Injury Lawyers at Grossman Roth, PA. The auto accidents are being caused by eating behind the wheel. Not only are 80% of car accidents caused by eating while driving, but 60% of near misses are also caused by drivers distracted by eating behind the wheel.

When multi-tasking while driving and engaging in a secondary acidity such as eating, drivers seem to be focusing more on their additional activity that what they are doing on the road say the Florida Personal Injury Lawyers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration conducted a study that showed distractions, like eating, can become a problem for drivers who can't react quickly to a sharp curve, oncoming car, or object that has darted in front of the vehicle.

A list of foods that are the most difficult to eat behind the wheel has been released by the NHTSA. This list says Florida Personal Injury Lawyers, includes coffee, soup, tacos, chili dogs, hamburgers, ribs, wings, fried chicken, jelly doughnuts, soda and even chocolate. Surprising to most, coffee was ranked the most dangerous beverage to drink while driving due to the boiling liquid that can easily spill while going over a bump thus causing additional distractions.

The numbers of the NHTSA study are shocking. The study reports that 70% of drivers eat while they are driving and an amazing 83% of drivers drink a beverage behind the wheel says the Florida Personal Injury Lawyers at Grossman Roth.

Call Attorney for Car Accidents

A driver going the wrong way slammed into two other vehicles, causing a horrific wreck. The wrong-way driver was killed in the raging inferno of her exploding car.
“This particular accident was a shock to all those involved. It happened when a wrong-way driver, in control of a Mercury Tracer, was heading south in the northbound lane of I-35 near Austin. She slammed into a Ford F-150. Just seconds after the first impact, a Toyota hit the Tracer. The second impact detonated the gas tank on the Tracer, trapping the driver inside,” said Brooks Schuelke, an Austin personal injury lawyer with Perlmutter & Schuelke, L.L.P.
Emergency crews arrived quickly, but discovered the Tracer driver was dead. The survivors of the wreck were taken to the nearest medical facility for treatment. The police report had no further details pertaining to whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved in this accident and a full investigation would be launched.
The first thing most people think about when they have been in an accident is whether or not they will be OK – be able to walk and live a normal life. They are in shock and not thinking straight. When the chills wear off and they are medically assessed as being OK, or evaluated with serious injuries and will need extensive care, many then start wondering whether or not they can claim compensation for their medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and property damage.
“The answer to that is ‘Yes, they can file a personal injury claim for compensation.’ The first step in that process is to contact an experienced Austin personal injury lawyer and find out what your rights are and how a trial comes together and, as odd as it may sound, to find out if there was negligence involved and whether or not negligence may be apportioned between the other driver and the plaintiff,” Schuelke said.
In this particular case, any plaintiffs choosing to file a lawsuit would be filing against the estate of the dead Tracer’s driver. If drugs or alcohol did play a role in this wreck, this is information a lawyer may use to highlight the wilful negligence of the driver. “Mind you, the fact that she was already driving south in a northbound lane is a good start to indicate there was negligence,” Schuelke said.
Do not wait too long to seek legal counsel, as every state has a Statute of Limitations that will kick in and bar an action if a plaintiff waits too long to file. This is information that needs to be discussed with an attorney prior to proceeding with a personal injury case. “It is my job to deal with cases like this and to advise those who have been injured what their options are to recover compensation. If you have been in a car wreck and need help, I’d be pleased to talk to you about your case,” Schuelke said.

Chase, who has litigated dozens of jury trials, has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for his clients, and has the highest rating possible for ethical standards and professional abilities from Martindale-Hubbell, was asked to serve as the show's official and exclusive personal injury expert to field personal injury and product liability questions and to discuss some of his firm's most high-profile cases with "Larry on the Law" listeners.

A graduate of Pepperdine University School of Law, Chase was named Trial Lawyer of the Year in the area of Defective Products in 2004 and was listed as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers by the American Trial Lawyers Association in 2007. In 2009, he was named a Top Lawyer in Orange County by OC Metro magazine. In 2010, he was named a Top 50 Orange County Super Lawyer by Orange Coast Magazine for the fourth consecutive year.

Chase was lead attorney on three important, precedent-setting appellate opinions: Schreiber v. Estate of Kiser (a California Supreme Court case dealing with expert witness designations); Hernandez v. State of California (an appellate case from the Second Appellate District dealing with governmental design immunity); and Mazon v. Ford Motor Company (an auto products case dealing with Forum Non Conveniens).

Currently, Chase serves as a Vice President of the Consumer Attorneys of California and is past President of the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association. He is a frequent lecturer on litigation-related topics in continuing education programs for trial lawyers.

The son of a janitor, Elder was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. He attended Brown University, receiving a BA in Political Science in 1974. He then attended University of Michigan, School of Law, graduating in 1977.

He was host of the television show, "Moral Court," distributed by Warner Brothers Television. In the fall of 2004, Warner Brothers returned Elder to daily television with "The Larry Elder Show," an hour-long, multitopic show that brought common sense, sound advice and realistic, workable solutions.

In his best-selling book, "The 10 Things You Can't Say in America," Elder skewers the crippling myths that dominate the public agenda. His latest book, "What's Race Got to Do with It? Why it's Time to Stop the Stupidest Argument in America," is being praised as an important, groundbreaking must-read for the future of race relations in America. Elder also writes a nationally syndicated newspaper column distributed through Creators Syndicate.

Drivers Beware of Winter

Winter is showing no signs of letting up as it batters Pennsylvania and the Northeast, and motorists must be ready for the physical and legal hazards the harsh weather brings, says Pennsylvania personal injury attorney J. Christopher Munley.
“Bad weather makes for bad accidents,” said Munley, the managing partner of Munley, Munley & Cartwright, P.C., a Scranton, Pennsylvania personal injury law firm that represents car accident victims throughout the region.
“Drivers need to be extra careful and extra alert,” Munley said. “But if accidents happen, know the law, your obligations and your rights.”
According to Munley, any driver involved in a car accident should get the insurance information on other vehicles involved, collect eyewitnesses’ names and obtain a police report.
But, he said, those steps should be followed by a consultation with an experienced Pennsylvania car accident attorney as soon as possible.
“For most drivers, an accident is a rare or first-time event. They may collect the right information but fail to realize their rights or their liabilities. A lawyer’s advice is crucial,” Munley said.
Should an auto accident occur, Munley said all motorists should follow these basic steps:
Stay calm, turn off the ignition and turn on the emergency flashers.
Render aid and call an ambulance. Do not move injured people if movement could add to the injury.
Protect the scene and make sure approaching motorists are warned.
Always call police so there is an accident report on file.
Gather information from others involved in the accident as well as any witnesses to the crash.
If there is the slightest chance of injury, see a doctor. Serious injuries do not always result in immediate pain.
Notify the car's insurer and report the accident. Pennsylvania law requires that an accident report be filed within two days after an accident. An insurance company or the police department can provide the standard form.
“The best way to avoid the injury, expense and legal issues of an accident is to avoid accidents,” Munley said. He encourages all drivers to review these tips provided by PennDOT for driving in winter weather conditions:
Slow down gradually and drive at a speed that suits the conditions.
Turn on your headlights.
Stay in your lane.
Increase your following distance.
Reduce in-car distractions since your full attention is required.
Keep windows and mirrors free of snow and ice.
During whiteouts, come to a complete stop only when you can safely get as far off the road as possible or when there is a safe area to do so.
Do not stop in the flow of traffic since this could create a chain-reaction collision.
Do not pass a vehicle moving slowly or speed up to get away from a vehicle that is following too closely.
Always buckle up and never drink and drive.

Florida Personal Injury Attorney

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - A multiple car pileup occurred on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire on January 9th. The pileup accident occurred in the afternoon and included about 40 vehicles. Of the vehicles involved in the pileup accident, there were two buses, one commercial bus, and one Tilton school bus, which was transporting a sports team. Pileup accidents are one of the types of car crashes that can cause serious injuries and significantly alter the lives of its victims. If you've been injured in a car crash, visit http://southflinjury.com/ to contact a Florida auto accident attorney.
Nine people were rushed to the Concord Hospital as a result of the pileup accident. Fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening. Everybody brought to the hospital appeared to experience only minor injuries. Nursing supervisor Angelique Dixon said that most of the people brought to the hospital were expected to be treated and released.
Apparently, the pileup accident could have been in large part due to bad weather conditions in the area at the time. It had been snowing, and ice covered the road. As a result of the pileup, the southside of Interstate 93 was shutdown in Canterbury (which is about 10 miles North of Concord). The highway was also kept closed after the pileup for about 2 hours.
These types of pileup accidents unfortunately do happen. Oftentimes, during the pileups, driver reaction time is not quick enough to avoid hitting the car in front, leading each car hit to impact the car in front as well. Weather conditions can also often play a role, as it did here. If you or somebody you know has been injured in such a pileup, injured in a car accident of any sort, or injured in some other type of accident, contact Fort Lauderdale personal injury attorney Anthony Quackenbush at 786-294-7711 for a free consultation or visit his website at http://www.southflinjury.com.
